PULL THE TRIGGER: The Weapons of High On Life Q&A

YOUR WEAPONS ARSENAL IS LOCKED AND LOADED.

There's nothing more important than a powerful lineup of weaponry to absolutely obliterate an alien cartel to smithereens. The gratification of shooting the exoskeleton off bodies and yanking out eyeballs with a sentient knife is an unmatched high (but arguably as powerful as humans in a hyperbong). But before you go crazy on the triggers, check out the details behind your weird-ass armory with our Technical Director, Nick Weihs, below. Prep those fingers for some stabbin' and shootin'.

HOLD UP! Are you following High On Life on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook? If you answered, "YES" proceed to the following Q&A. If you answered "NO" ...are you serious right now?

The all-knower of weapons and skills in High On Life. Who are you?

As the combat director, I make sure you have cool ways to fight the enemies and that they give you good reasons to use all those cool ways.

Users play as epic intergalactic bounty hunters to save humanity from an alien cartel looking to use human bodies as drugs. Crazy stuff. Big shoes to fill. What types of skills will players be able to unlock throughout the game to accomplish their mission?

Upgrades to your bounty hunter suit give you new ways to traverse the world and new options in combat, like being able to run along mag-walls to get a better vantage point on your enemies, and powerslide along the ground to close the gap.

You can't save Earth without an arsenal of weapons to boot, right? Could you give us some intel on our guns?

Each weapon you find in the game is from a race of sentient gun-like aliens called Gatlians. On the surface level, these creatures behave more or less like traditional guns–pistols, shotguns, SMGs, etc. However, each gun has one or two additional tricks up its sleeve to give you more options in combat and more ways to explore the worlds.

What about melee weapons? What if I want to really get in there and do some damage right in the face of an enemy?

One of the weapons you acquire early in the game is a sentient knife named Knifey. He's fairly powerful, but not particularly loyal. Thankfully he's utterly addicted to stabbing things, and there's plenty of that to go around.

We're all about the squanch at Squanch Games. Duh. What is it that makes each weapon squanchy

Your weapons are a few of the main characters of the game. The more you use them, the more you discover their personality, since each gun will react to situations in different ways.

So there are a bunch of different guns players can expect to wield, but what makes them all so different from one another?

In addition to the guns all having different personalities, each gun's primary method of dealing with damage is different. Some fire quickly, some are more accurate, some are better at long range, and some are more fire and forget. Each gun also has unique abilities that allow the player to buy time to recover and do combos that can take enemies out.

I HEARD VOICES! WHO ARE THE WEAPONS?!

Justin Roiland, J.B. Smoove, Betsy Sodaro, Tim Robinson, and Michael Cusack are behind the weapons!

Things we know: Guns talk & guns shoot. Cool. So how do they mesh into the story of High On Life?

The main way you interact with the guns is to shoot aliens with them. Secondarily though, they act as your voice when you are talking with other characters throughout the game, meaning that your choice of a gun might steer the conversation differently.

From a skills standpoint, how does your player, a mere Earthling, compare to the unknown aliens of space?

Since you're just one kid trying to take out an entire alien drug cartel, you're pretty outgunned.  On the bright side though, you've got some pretty powerful weapons and an almost fully functional bounty suit, so there's a small chance you might survive.

WRAP IT UP! You've been working on High On Life for a while now, so what's been your favorite skill/weapon to develop?

This is my current favorite. It's just really fun to watch all of his minions swarm an enemy, especially since the minions are so cute.
